Have you heard about the latest trend of acai bowls? Lately these have been blowing up on Instagram and social media. Acai Bowls are basically a very thick smoothie with goodness on top. I personally think that acai tastes like a strawberry, raspberry, and blueberry combined. These are a great after school snack because they are nutritious and healthy. I use the frozen acai purée from Trader Joe’s, but I know that there are other powder versions available to make these bowls. Here’s how to do it!
1. Start by placing your frozen acai under running warm water. You should melt it so that it is a liquid or close to liquid.
2. Next, put the acai liquid into the blender with a small amount of strawberries, raspberries, blueberries, etc. Honestly any fruit of your choice will do, but I would suggest not to put too much fruit into the base because the top of your bowl will be where fresh fruit goes.
3. Once you have blended the acai with other fruits, make sure it is thick enough to eat. It should not be runny, because then it won’t hold together while the toppings are being placed.
4. Next is the fun part! You can decorate the top of your acai bowl with any yummy things that you want. I choose depending on what fresh fruits I have. I think that these bowls look the best when they have straight lines of fruits and seeds, so that it how I decorate mine! I usually use chia seeds, hemp seeds, flax seeds, strawberries, pineapples, raspberries, bananas, and blueberries. This part is completely up to you and is very customizable.
